GRaff

The GRaff is an art project realized together with a Zurich shared household & friends. The construction principle was designed so that even untrained people could take part in the building and find joy in the project and in working together.

01 — Assemblies

Shaping & organization

The GRaff was designed and developed in a low-poly style. It is composed of several assemblies, shown here in different colors. Each assembly consists of multiple triangles that are joined into a larger whole. Organizing the work into assemblies reduces complexity and enables more efficient fabrication and assembly.

02 — Parts

Triangles & parts

Each triangle within an assembly consists of three parts. Each part is miter-cut at both ends and then joined into a three-part frame. In more complex (concave) situations, an additional longitudinal cut is sometimes required.

03 — Head

CNC fabrication

The triangles of the head were fabricated with a CNC mill and then joined into a whole. To produce as little waste as possible from the sheets, the position of the triangles was optimized with regard to offcut.

04 — Site

Fabrication & assembly

Over several weeks, many great people had fun taking part in building the GRaff. Sometimes in the evening after work, and a few times on sociable days with a fired-up grill, good music, and nice weather. Thank you to everyone who helped!
